If you have out-of-network benefits through your insurance plan, you may be eligible for reimbursement. Documentation, known as a "superbill", will be provided to you at the end of each month. You can submit superbills to your insurance to process a claim for potential reimbursement.

When calling your insurance provider, ask the following questions:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health treatment?

  • If so, what is my out-of-network deductible?

  • How much of my out-of-network deductible has been met so far this year?

  • Once I have met that deductible, what percentage will be reimbursed for a 50 minute therapy session(CPT code 90837)?

  • How do I submit superbills for reimbursement?

  • How long does it take for me to receive reimbursement?

FAQ's

I’m nervous about starting therapy. Is that normal?

Therapy can be vulnerable and new, so it’s natural to be nervous. It can feel intimidating to think of facing painful emotions, nonetheless in front of someone new, perhaps fearing that it will be awkward and uncomfortable. The fear around that can feel overwhelming. Taking steps to seek help for the challenges we have is a huge step. It takes courage to realize we can’t face our issues alone.

Therapy is a space where you can be yourself and come just as you are, including feeling nervous.  I’m committed to finding a way to care for any nervousness that may be present, and ensure sessions are as comfortable as possible.

I’m here if you want to talk about it during a free phone consultation.

What can I expect during the first session?

Overall, you can think of the first session as two-way interview where we can ask each other questions so we can begin to get acquainted with each other. I’ll invite you to share more about yourself, and we will also talk about any past experiences you have had in therapy, or any hesitations about starting therapy.

Some examples of things we will cover in our first session include:

  • Current struggles that you are seeking out therapy to address

  • Exploration of your family of origin and any history of mental health issues in your family.

  • Goals you would like to reach by going through therapy

  • My approach and how I can help you reach your goals

You can ask me questions as well. You might be curious about about my experience or training, and what sessions will be like. The most important part of a first session is to experience what therapy is like with me. If you feel secure, accepted, and comfortable with me, we can discuss if you’d like to meet again.

How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

Take your time to read through my website. If you sense that I may be a good fit based on what you are looking for, you can email me for a phone consultation.

During your free phone consultation, you can ask me questions about my approach, or any other questions you may have that are specific to you. You’ll also be able to share what’s going on for you and I can share my ideas around how I can help you.

The first few sessions will be an opportunity for us to get to know each other and will give you an opportunity to see how you feel working with me. My approach is not going to work for everyone.  What’s most important to me is that you find someone who you feel is the right fit for you.  We can explore that together.

How many therapy sessions will I need?

This depends on many factors, thus it is difficult to give a specific answer to this great question!

During your first intake appointment, we will explore your current struggles, needs, and goals for therapy. I will ask questions about your present life circumstances, as well as obtain a thorough history including your family history and your upbringing.  We will work together to create a plan of how I can help you reach your goals. Your history, consistency in therapy attendance, your therapist's approach, and a good personality fit between client and therapist, are all important factors that impact progress in therapy.

Do you provide therapy sessions in person or virtually?

Both! It is up to you if you wish to meet in person or virtually.  For some, meeting virtually allow very busy individuals more flexibility and convenience.  Therapy has been shown to be just as effective from the comfort of your own home.  For others, you may feel more comfortable having a designated place outside of your home, and may benefit from having the physical presence of someone with you, to do this very personal work.

I am able to provide virtual therapy to any individuals residing in the state of Arizona.

Do you accept insurance?

No, I do not. I accept cash, checks, HSA/FSA, and all major credit cards. If you would like to utilize your insurance benefits, I can provide you with a superbill once a month to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. The amount reimbursed will vary for each plan, so you will need to contact your insurance provider to inquire about your out-of-network benefits.
